A New Concept with Bold Appeal Forms the Groundwork for the Volkswagen Taos

Now, more than ever, SUVs have reached an unprecedented level of popularity. Though these vehicles were once seen as the ultimate solution for passenger space and cargo capacity, the demand for modern SUVs is at all all-new high. Riding the wave of this consumer preference, auto manufacturers are conceptualizing and producing new crossovers and SUVs at breakneck speed.

One of the models developed to keep up with the rising demand is the modern and athletic Volkswagen Taos in Mount Prospect. If buyers love anything more than spacious and contemporary new Volkswagen SUVs, it is a brand new model that has never been seen or experienced before.

Big Expectations for Volkswagen's Newest SUV Model

As a model that is new to Volkswagen, we are all interested in finding out more about what the Volkswagen Taos has to offer. What will it look like? How will it feel? Will performance meet our expectations? With more details of this SUV emerging, we are beginning to see what can be expected from its release. Let us be the first to say, we like where this new vehicle is headed.

Styling

Bold, clean, and classical are the styling attributes that the Volkswagen Taos is built upon. Getting rid of exterior lines leaves the outermost panels of the Volkswagen Taos open and crisp, giving this SUV an uninterrupted look that is contemporary and fresh. Specialized features are integrated into various trim levels this SUV offers. Accents, like LED lighting and grille illumination, are available on higher trim levels and provide that extra touch that really adds character to a vehicle's appearance. While Arlington Heights drivers may see some attributes in the Taos that mimic other Volkswagen models, like the Tiguan, many of the design elements of this SUV are completely unique to this specific model.

Performance

We would not expect anything less than an all-new engine to grace the powertrain of the Volkswagen Taos. Equipped with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that is turbocharged and ready to go, the Taos SUV can generate up to 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Combined with exceptional fuel economy, the Volkswagen Taos is a great commuting vehicle or daily driving option for Des Plaines drivers. Other powertrain specs consist of front-wheel drive, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and a turbocharger powered by a variable turbine. Upgrading to Volkswagen's signature 4Motion all-wheel drive and a seven-speed transmission will also be optional.

Technology

Some of the most exciting attributes we are looking forward to in the new Volkswagen Taos are the innovative technology facets and device integration. Boasting a digital cockpit that is modern and well equipped, Taos drivers will gain access to a digital cockpit that features an instrument cluster, all of which is situated behind a comfort-oriented heated steering wheel. Sliding to the right on the dash panel, you will find a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen that is equipped with voice control potential. An upscale Beats Audio sound system radiates sound throughout the cabin of the Taos, surrounding passengers in musical elements during their drive.

Safety Features

Featuring the latest and greatest safety elements, the Volkswagen Taos incorporates many different elements into one comprehensive suite known as IQ.DRIVE. Eight standard features with at least three available upgrades wrap this vehicle in safety enhancements all around. Features that reduce the likelihood of collision, assist drivers with making split-second decisions, and help illuminate the road ahead are all pertinent to this suite of safety features. The Volkswagen Taos is one of the most advanced SUV models this automaker has to offer, and we cannot wait to see what else it has to offer when it arrives at our Volkswagen dealership near Palatine.

Safety & Security

Knowing if there's a car in your blind spot matters. Knowing that it's safe for you to change lanes also matters. These are two of the driver-assist safety features that the Volkswagen Tiguan offers. You'll also receive an alert that warns you of a possible front-end collision, or if there's a car approaching from behind you when you're attempting to back out of a parking spot. Check out the complete list of Driver Assistance features for the VW Tiguan.

Taos Basecamp

With its versatility accommodations, advanced amenities, and convenient physical footprint, the VW Taos is already an excellent choice for Arlington Heights drivers seeking extra utility in a city-friendly package. It's also handsomely stylish, with clean lines, a bold front fascia, and a broad-shouldered stance. But Volkswagen wanted to do something for drivers who prefer a more rugged aesthetic. So, motivated by the enthusiastic response to the VW Atlas's Basecamp accessory line, the company has decided to offer a similar package for its all-new compact SUV, building on the Taos's dynamic exterior design with a catalog of accessory options that cater directly to customers desiring distinctive style and functionality.

The Taos Basecamp package features custom protective body cladding, including aggressive front and rear fender flares with integrated splash guards, lower door side plates, and an exclusive Basecamp badge on the front grille. The accessories combine to create a seamless and streamlined rugged look extending from the front grille to the rear bumpers, complementing the Taos' adaptability and adventurous style. These dealer-installed components are available separately, save for the Basecamp badge, which is only available as part of the full package.

In addition to the new Basecamp accessory line, Volkswagen is pleased to offer a wide range of additional Taos accessories to further augment convenience and vehicle protection. Examples include floor protection via Rubber MuddyBuddy® and carpeted Monster Mats®, as well as Bumperdillo®, a self-adhesive ribbed cover that guards the rear bumper against damage when loading and unloading the cargo area. Additional options include a frameless, auto-dimming rearview mirror equipped with HomeLink Connect®.

Taos Basecamp Concept

Taos Basecamp accessories are the first components to come out of the Taos Basecamp Concept model introduced in the second half of May 2021. In addition to a more rugged exterior style, the concept vehicle also equipped an arsenal of capability enhancements designed to bolster the Taos' off-road prospects. Upgrades included a raised suspension from H&R Special Springs LP, custom Traverse MX wheels by fifteen52 wrapped in 225/65R17 Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail tires, and a custom Thule Canyon XT roof basket with integrated off-road LED lighting from Baja Designs. Additionally, the Taos Basecamp Concept interior was modified with a custom cargo divider from Polytec Group, allowing for easy organization of various sporting accessories and adventure gear. These enhancements are not yet available for the Taos, but we could see additional Basecamp-inspired releases further down the line.
